- Dr. Thankachen completed his medical education at Christian Medical College, Vellore, India, obtaining his MBBS, MS in General Surgery, and MCh in Cardiothoracic Surgery. He commenced his career at CMC-Vellore in 2002, joining the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- Dedicating two years to specialized training at Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand, he returned to CMC-Vellore, where he continued before joining Evercare Hospital Chattogram. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Thankachen has performed over 10,000 cardiothoracic surgeries, encompassing both adult and pediatric cases. His repertoire includes 7,000 cardiac surgeries and over 3,000 pediatric cases, ranging from routine to complex procedures.
- Dr. Thankachen has played a pivotal role in advancing the department's expertise in VATS (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery), ECMO, blood conservation techniques during cardiopulmonary bypass, and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. He has actively contributed to the Cardiothoracic Surgical Training Programme in India for the past two decades, mentoring numerous young surgeons and serving as an examiner for the training program on multiple occasions.
- His professional interests revolve around aortic and mitral valve repair procedures, as well as minimally invasive cardiac surgery.
