Evercare Hospital Dhaka, the country’s first JCI-accredited hospital, has organized a patient forum on the occasion of World COPD Day. In the forum, the speakers discussed and shared opinions and experiences on the topics of COPD causes, emphysema, and various effective treatment strategies for better living.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, is a disease that blocks normal airflow to the lungs, causing shortness of breath. It also produces emphysema and chronic bronchitis. One of the main causes of COPD is smoking and air pollution. People with COPD are at high risk for other health problems. The hospital authorities organized this to increase public awareness about COPD.
Prof. Dr. Rowshne Jahan, Coordinator and Senior Consultant, Respiratory Medicine Department; Dr. SM Abdullah Al Mamun, Senior Consultant, Respiratory Medicine Department; and Dr. Ziaul Huq, Senior Consultant, Respiratory Medicine Department, and others participated in the discussion. In addition, Dr. Arif Mahmud, Director of Medical Services of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh, graced the occasion with his presence.
The patient forum was attended by various patients and their relatives and experts answered patients’ queries related to COPD, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis. Besides, during the exchange of views, they advised everyone to take more care of their lungs. They urged to build a pollution-free and healthy society by abandoning the daily unhealthy lifestyle and advised to consult a doctor quickly without neglecting COPD.
